Update on Leighton

I know it has been way too long.....Leighton and I have been quite busy.......

Anyway, Leighton is doing good. He is a pro in his chair. He has passed all the required steps to get released from the Craig Center in Denver. So, they are planning on leaving by the end of the month.

That doesn't mean he is going to call it quits on the recovery. He has still been working very hard every day. They have started him on therapy in the pool, and he even got to drive a car with hand controls.

Leighton told me he is focused and ready to keep going at this aggressively. He is ready to move on to the next step. Which is moving to a rehab center in Seattle.

Leighton has been very fortunate to have continued support from you, through emails and calls. Also, his dad and girlfriend have not left his side. Also, his mom, sister, and many other friends have come to visit encouraging him to look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for your continued support and I promise it will not be too long before I update this again.

  1. Hey guys, glad to hear things are going well and that Leighton is staying encouraged and motivated. This past week or so, a little gal about the same age came from Bozeman to the hospital there with you with basically the same situation. Its a friend of a friend, with the family asking if we possibly could see if Leighton & his crew could provide a bit of encouragement to her too. Her name is Flynn Murray. Email me at idahofarmchick@yahoo.com if you need more info! Take care,

  2. HEy Leighton! We just got back yesterday (Sunday April 19th) from the World Mini's in Vegas. WOW what an experience that was!!! Remember that my son has only been racing for one year now. I couldn't believe everything!!! From the rigs, the number of people, to the places these people came from. (I was told that the number of entries were down from 3300 last year to only about 1200 this year. Hayden races 65's and there was a little guy in his class that was from London, England!!! We entered Hayden in 3 classes, 65 open thru 11, 65 stock 9-11 and 65 mod 9-11. The stock class had only one division but the other two classes had two divisions. He made both his qualifiers (barely made the one). I'm very proud of him!!!! He has never seen or ridden in conditions like these. The ruts were HUGE!!! They swallowed up the 50's and the 65's. Only the kids that have been there before did any good. He managed to stay up and complete every race. He got lapped every time but that's ok. He picked up his lap times as the days went on. He went from the 2.40's down to 2.17. Of course everybody else got quicker too but at least he showed improvement. I think the fastest lap time from 65's was a 1.55. The little guys can haul! Saw Donnie Hansen this weekend. We spoke briefly about you. Donnie and my husband raced together back in the day and were good friends. I'm glad to hear you are continuing on your recovery and we continue to wish you and your loved ones all the best!!! Take care,
