On a recent trip to California Leighton got back on a motorcycle for the first time and visited his friend at oneal. Here is what they had to say.

Well we had a awesome Surprise Leighton came by and visited with me and the O'Neal family today ! It was nice to see him in the building where he has ridden/been a part of the family for more than 7 years. He looked great and was in good spirits ! The day before he was at Starwest riding with Ricky James and had a blast, 8 laps LL put down! Usual Leighton couldn't stand rolling around in the show room so we picked him up and brought him upstairs (building is only two stories no elevator) to hang out with all the guys and see all the new 2010 stuff. We got him dialed in with his favorite color gear, printed it up for his next ride on his quad or hanging with ricky. It was a good day and we all our still wearing our bands in supporting Leightons fight to get back on his feet again.

Leighton is working hard in Seattle

Leighton moved from the Craig Hospital in Denver to the Pushing Boundaries rehab facility in Seattle a few weeks ago. I know, I know....a few weeks....yeah I am behind on updating.

Anyway, Leighton is at his new home, for the time being, working his butt off. He said that the Craig Hospital was great and they really helped him a lot. The focus at the Craig hospital was to get Leighton doing everything he could on his own. He mastered his chair, is a fish in the water, and even had some fun in a hand operated car.

Now that he has moved to the Pushing Boundaries facility in Seattle they have begun to focus on getting the movement back in his lower body. The facility uses a lot of machines that move Leighton's legs and body through normal range of motion trying to get the nerves to fire off muscle memory. Pushing Boundaries the on the cutting edge of rehab with the best doctors and techniques.

Leighton is working hard to accomplish everything he can each and every day. Thanks for your continued support and prayers.

Update on Leighton

I know it has been way too long.....Leighton and I have been quite busy.......

Anyway, Leighton is doing good. He is a pro in his chair. He has passed all the required steps to get released from the Craig Center in Denver. So, they are planning on leaving by the end of the month.

That doesn't mean he is going to call it quits on the recovery. He has still been working very hard every day. They have started him on therapy in the pool, and he even got to drive a car with hand controls.

Leighton told me he is focused and ready to keep going at this aggressively. He is ready to move on to the next step. Which is moving to a rehab center in Seattle.

Leighton has been very fortunate to have continued support from you, through emails and calls. Also, his dad and girlfriend have not left his side. Also, his mom, sister, and many other friends have come to visit encouraging him to look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for your continued support and I promise it will not be too long before I update this again.

Leighton is rolling with it.

Leighton has been really busy lately. He does therapy from 9a.m. to 4p.m. five days a week. Leighton said that he has been working as hard as he can. Some of the stuff he is doing seems like it should be easy, but for him it has been a challenge. But, he is not letting it get to him. Leighton has started to master his new wheel chair and doing everything he can to get out of it.

For right now the doctors are focusing on getting everything that is working properly to perform at its best possible. Leighton is doing a lot of upper body work and spending time each day on the mat working on balance and core stability. He said that they do have some fun each day. One day they played basketball and another they did rugby. He needed new wheels for his chair when they got done with rugby.

Leighton is taking the same approach to his workouts today as he did to his training. He is giving everything he can every single time. But, he is still his normal self having fun and joking around. Apparently he got in a little trouble not waiting for the nurse to help with some things. He decided he could handle some jobs himself that he was supposed to get help with and now he is on "probation". He said he will be on his best behavior not to go too fast on the program. :)

Thanks to everyone for keeping up with their letters and e-mails. It means a lot to Leighton to know how many people are still praying and supporting him.

Leighton is going back to a normal room

The doctors got the results back from tests done to Leighton's rash. It is a form of the chicken pox virus, but it is not contagious through the air. So, they are moving Leighton back to his old room and he will be getting back to therapy tomorrow. This is good news! Leighton had been stuck in his ICU room for five days. The only thing he found to do was time trials around his bed in the wheel chair. His best time was 13.2 seconds.

Leighton is very fortunate to have so many great people behind him. His girlfriend and dad have not left his side since the crash. His mom and sister had to go home to get some things, but they are coming back. His mechanic is an awesome guy who stayed for the first two weeks and is now driving Leighton's truck from southern California to Denver. Leighton also has had a lot of people come visit him and is thankful for each one of them.

Leighton said he is very thankful for all the continued support. He is so glad for the emails and letters. If you want to send him an e-mail, the supportll27@hotmail.com has been fixed. If you want to send him a card he is in the Craig Hospital in Denver, CO room 302.

Leighton's Email was Stolen

The supportll27@hotmail.com was stolen. I just received an email from this address and it was about sending money to some guy, who claimed to be Leighton, in Europe. Please do not send money to this dork. Leighton is obviously not stranded in another country. We are working to get this fixed. I will let you know when we get a new address for Leighton.

thanks for the support and please feel free to comment through this sight.

THE EMAIL HAS BEEN FIXED. FEEL FREE TO USE IT AGAIN.
